Why Start
Your Own Business?
With the economy
in the tank and employers laying people off and downsizing left and
right the question becomes, what can I do to help myself if laid off?
Also, did you know that many entrepreneurs have started and run very
successful business from their homes? We are living in an economic
downturn that does not appear to be leaving us soon so this is the
perfect time to start a business. Here are some things you can begin to consider:
a. What might
happen if I am laid off my job?
b. What is the
likelihood of getting another job quickly?
c. Can I expect
the same pay level if I have to take another job?
d. What will be
the impact of job loss on my family?
I think these are
the major questions any employee needs to ask him/herself at this
critical time. As can be seen in the job market today, we can't depend
on keeping a job 20 or 30 years and then retiring. Those days are gone
and not coming back. Each employee must decide to choose whether to
continue depending on someone else for a payday or developing a new plan
of action.
Actually, the
present economic situation might be the best thing to happen for some
folk. There will be those who will decide to do something different for
themselves and family. Many employees as well as some of those laid off
will look more closely at starting their own business and that's good.
For those fortunate enough to still be working, do as I did. I became
aware that no one would or could take care of me and my financial needs
better than I can. I also realized that I have to take full
responsibility for whatever happens to me financially. I understood the
time had passed for me to completely depend on anyone else for me and my
family's basic needs. I decided to start my own business while I was
still employed. That was the very best decision I could have made. You
can make that decision as well, but you don't have lots of time. Don't
put off til tomorrow what should be done quickly.
No matter what
your present occupation is you may be able to turn it into a business
you can operate on a part time basis for now. Whether you're a lawyer,
janitor, nurse, clerk, typist, security officer or you have some other
skill, you can turn those skills into a viable business as some have
done before you. My advice is don't wait until it's show time before you
decide what you want to do. Remember, only you have the power to make
choices and changes in your life. Think hard about the business you want
to start and move forward. You can do whatever you want to do if you put
your mind and heart into it. I did and I have never looked back. I made
the choice back then to look at the times and listen to my heart. You
can do the same thing, and, you can be successful. Remember, there are
still many businesses that require services. Do what many others before
you have done. Many of you have dreamed of having your own business and
being your own boss. Get over the fear, define your niche and move ahead
to start your own business and do it now!
